Brief presentation of the Villacidresi Farmers Association
The Villacidresi Farmers Association was founded in 1970 by a group of farmers to provide phytosanitary treatment services on the citrus groves of its members.
The Villacidresi Farmers Association became a Cooperative on May 15, 1974, starting to also deal with the commercial aspect of production.
The operational headquarters were initially located in the premises owned by him in via R. Sarda in Villacidro.
In 1980, construction began on the structures in which it still operates , in Loc. S'Acqua Cotta, in the municipality of Villacidro.
AAV becomes a point of reference for the agricultural sector of the area, guaranteeing assistance in the field, processing and marketing of the products supplied by the members.
Since December 2004 it has been recognized as a PO (Producers Organization), the only PO in Sardinia that deals with the production of citrus fruits and fruit.
Currently, 90 agricultural companies are associated, located in the municipalities of Villacidro, Serramanna, Donori, Samassi, Decimomannu, neighboring municipalities of SM Coghinas, Viddalba and Valledoria, in the province of Sassari.
The currently cultivated area is approximately 675 hectares.

The quantities of product marketed in 2023 amount to approximately 80,000 quintals.
The cooperative operates mainly with large-scale retail trade both in Sardinia and in extra-regional markets, as well as through sales at its own box at the wholesale market in Sestu.
The turnover of the OP Associazione Agricoltori Villacidresi in 2023 was almost €8,500,000
The production of jams has recently been started thanks to the collaboration undertaken with a company specialized in processing, finding encouraging signals from the market.
The Conditioning Center
Inside the OP structure of approximately 4000 m2 there are the packaging lines for citrus fruits, peaches, persimmons and pomegranates.
There are also 9 cells, of which 3 can be used for the degreening of citrus fruits and 3 ozone cells, a technology that today allows for improved product conservation over time.
The history of the association
On May 17, 2024, we want to celebrate the Association's 50th anniversary together with all our members and collaborators.
For the occasion, a conference entitled “The Villacidro Citrus Farm, 50 years of history between past, present and future” will be held at the Agrumicola headquarters.
